Alumnae who were here in the 1990s will remember the construction of our smart new reception area. They may also remember that the end of the top corridor and staircase were demolished and the only way down was via a rickety wooden staircase accessed by scrambling though the window of Miss Abbott's room!
At first the makeshift staircase was open to the elements, but was hastily enclosed with builders' polythene sheeting to keep out the rain.
You can just spot the polythene-clad stairs in the background behind the magnolia tree in the main photo.
The Reception was opened on the 4th of July 1991 by the Lord Lieutenant of Greater Manchester, Colonel John Timmins, pictured here with Mrs Barbara Fleming, Chair of Governors, and Miss Mary Moon, Head Mistress.
