Girls wearing white dresses and sashes in the 1890s

The first Founders’ Day Ceremony at Manchester High School for Girls was held on 19 January 1899 in the school hall in Dover Street. It commemorated the 25th anniversary of the opening of the School.

In those days, girls didn't wear school uniform but, on special occasions, white dresses were worn with yellow sashes. We have some sashes in the School Archive.
