You may not know that from 1881, boys were admitted to the Prep Department if their sisters were at the School. As Remembrance Day approaches, we remember those who fought for their country during World War 1.
Geoffrey John Bahin served in the Navy, first on the ship HMS Conway and then, in June 1915, the School Magazine reports that he was gazetted midshipman to HMS Britannia of the 3rd Battle Squadron, part of the Grand Fleet.
Sadly, two of our boys, Wilfrid Barrow and Harold Thewlis, were killed in action.
Wilfrid was a pupil from 1902 to 1906.
He served in the 6th Battalion of the King’s Own Royal Lancaster Regiment.
He was killed in action in the Dardanelles on 10th August 1915.
His death was reported in the School Magazine of December 1915.
Harold was a pupil between 1899 and 1900.
He was killed in the Gallipoli Campaign on 4th June 1915 at the age of 24.
His death was reported in the School Magazine of June 1915.
