Old girl Catherine Corbett was one of the first two women to graduate from Manchester University Medical School.

She served as a doctor in a Scottish Women’s Hospital Unit in Kraguievac in Central Serbia from 1915 to 1916.

Later, Catherine Corbett and her colleagues were prisoners of war in an Austrian camp.

After her release, she went out to work among the wounded in a Scottish Women’s Hospital Unit on the Russian Front.  She finally returned to England in November 1917.

In the MHSG Archive we have a copy of her ‘Diary in Serbia’ which recounts her experiences.
